Detention Center

Major Sandra Thurston
Jail Administrator

Lt. Christopher Cato
Assistant Jail Administrator
The Detention Center is under the command of Major Sandra Thurston, assisted by Leiutenant Christopher Cato.
The Detention Centers primary mission is booking, houseing and security of the inmates housed within. It consists of three female blocks and 12 male blocks; housing approximately 305 inmates.
The structure of the facility is designed to provide the staff with adequate visibility of various cell blocks in order to observe all inmates from the towers.
By monitoring the inmates in this manner the detention officers are able to prevent and deture hostile behaviors and possibilities of escape with minimal staffing, allowing other employee assests to be utilized in more a efficient manner. This allows the jail to be self sufficient where by utilizing specially selected and supervised inmates to perform various duties, to include cooking meals in the kitchen,
janitorial duties, and washing fellow inmates linens. Assigning these duties to inmates reduces expenses to operate the facility. There is a medical division where a doctor, dentist, and psychologist provide in house services for inmates with these needs.
The inmates have access to a law library providing them further education. There are also church services available for the inmates to attend. These services are provided in an effort to create an environment to prepare them to return to society in a more productive manner than crime.
