Criminal Investigations Division
Division Commander – LT. Darrell Powers
The Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.), is responsible for the investigative follow up on all incident reports generated by the Uniform Patrol Division to ensure that every report written receives the proper case closure. The investigators in C.I.D. work diligently to solve crimes reported to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators assigned to C.I.D. investigate the following:
- Crimes against property
- Crimes against Persons
- Crimes against Children
- The Sex Offender Registry
Investigators assigned to this division prepare reports for prosecution, interview victims and witnesses, prepare photo line-ups, collect and preserve evidence and develop information regarding practices and operation. Investigators work closely with the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute cases. The Criminal Investigations Division has one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, and three investigators to handle day to day investigations of criminal activity. Each investigator is assigned a week that they are on-call to respond to serious criminal incidents after hours.
